The First International Conference Universities and Artificial Intelligence Technology

The first international conference on universities and artificial intelligence technology began in Amman today with the participation of 50 Arab and Chinese universities.

Participants in the conference, which is organized by the Association of Arab Universities, the Association of Chinese Universities, Ajloun National University, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, exchange experiences and ideas and direct the discussion towards how to make the best use of artificial intelligence technology to achieve real development in higher education.

The Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, said during the two-day conference, "We live in an era of unprecedented societal transformation, and the emergence of artificial intelligence and the Fourth Industrial Revolution represent opportunities and challenges for higher education. On the one hand, these technologies have the ability to revolutionize teaching and learning, making education easier and more effective. On the other hand, they raise important questions about the future of work, the ethics of artificial intelligence, and the role of humans in an increasingly automated world.

Salama continued, "It can be said that artificial intelligence is reshaping our lives, our societies, and our future. In higher education, artificial intelligence enhances learning by adapting to individual needs and providing support around the clock, seven days a week, through smart teaching systems, simplifying administrative processes, and driving research and innovation forward.

He stressed that the Association of Arab Universities is a platform for Arab universities that includes 450 Arab universities from 22 Arab countries and represents one of the most important institutions of joint Arab action dedicated to the advancement of higher education in the Arab world, focusing on scientific research and publishing, digital transformation, capacity building, quality assurance, gender equality, women's empowerment in education, and enhancing student learning.

He said that the Secretariat of the Association of Arab Universities announced the establishment of a center for artificial intelligence at Ajloun National University to be a scientific, research, economic, and industrial incubator that works to lead the technological revolution among Arab universities.

In turn, the President of Ajloun National University, Dr. Firas Al-Hanandeh, said that the conference aims to enhance the awareness of participants and their understanding of artificial intelligence technologies and related technologies, the challenges and opportunities witnessed in this field, and to provide a platform for presenting new and innovative research in the field of artificial intelligence and exploring practical applications of artificial intelligence in various industries and sectors.

The conference also aims to review the best practices and resources available in the field of artificial intelligence used by the education and higher education sector, encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of artificial intelligence, and exchange ideas to enhance developments and progress in this regard.

Al-Hanandeh pointed out that the conference participants discussed the ethics of using artificial intelligence and digital transformation in higher education, the future of higher education in light of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, practical experiences, pioneering ideas, artificial intelligence, the quality of higher education, the role of artificial intelligence in business, emerging technologies, supported learning, and artificial intelligence, in addition to topics related to digital transformation.

For his part, Vice President of the Association of Chinese Universities, Dr. Yan Xu, stressed the importance of exchanging experiences and expertise between Arab and Chinese universities in the field of artificial intelligence technology, which positively reflects on achieving sustainable development in the Arab region.

He pointed out that Chinese universities have great technical capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence, expressing the readiness of Chinese universities to transfer this technology to Arab universities.

For his part, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, stressed the importance of the conference in providing an opportunity to discuss the possibility of using artificial intelligence and digital transformation in the field of the higher education sector, which positively reflects on increasing the competitive capacity of Arab universities.

In turn, the Chinese Ambassador to Oman, Chen Chuan Dong, said that artificial intelligence plays an important role in developing and modernizing various development sectors.

Dong stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and experiences in the field of artificial intelligence technology between Chinese and Arab universities, which positively reflects on the educational and training process in the higher education sector.

On the sidelines of the opening of the conference, the participants viewed the universities' exhibition in the field of artificial intelligence, where the organizers of the exhibition provided a brief explanation of the technologies that were displayed.
